Treasure your relationships
Through all of your success it's the people that you meet that will make the most difference in your life. Awards and achievements fade out of memory, degrees and titles are just checkboxes on a list. All of it can crumble and fade, but in the end what you will remember- what you will cherish - are the amazing people you got to meet along the way.
Never lose sight of the cherished few who are the most important to you.
Your mother and father
Your husband or wife
Your children
Your best friends
Family and friends should be very high on your personal lists of priorities. If they're not, you're missing out.
A dinner party with your husband's friends might not seem important when compared to a looming deadline worth millions to the company, but your HUSBAND is more important than the COMPANY.
Birthday presents are not very important compared to Big Meeting With Client but the BIRTHDAY BOY is important to you. MAKE THE TIME. It's not about the present (how big or important it is) it's about SHOWING UP and building memories with your important person.
Treasure your treasured people.
It takes practice and work to do this, because your treasured people are the ones you relax around. You might keep a lid on your emotions in your professional, more distant relationships. When you're with your treasured people, you relax your guard-- sometimes for the worse. At home, are you constantly spouting off about minor struggles and annoyances? Are you taking the time to do little spontaneous favours, or complimenting your loved ones on their successes?
You might be nicer to your barista than you are your best friend.
If you're the "widow" - the one who is losing a loved one to a career or a passion - speak up before it's too late.
